An OEM was tasked with development of a new fuel delivery system to satisfy hot fuel handling requirement. In order to reduce pollution, the company needed to develop a new system, which delivers precise fuel flow for combustions so that they can eliminate unused hot fuel to return back to the fuel tank. A team of engineers was assigned to accomplish this in three years. After two years of working on this issue, they could not meet the requirement.

The team finished development in two months, meeting all requirements. There was a reduction in time to market, which translated to savings of approximately $250 million dollars in warranty costs were realized.
