Joseph W. McGoey
M.D. is a Board certified physician for over 30 years. He has practiced
in a large multi-specialty group and in addition established new
practice sites. He has also held the position of Medical Director
of a million lives, 5 state PPO. Since 2000 has engaged in process
improvement in Healthcare in areas such as training, revenue enhancement
and a prototype electronic medical record. His clients have spanned
from a single physician practice to multi-specialty practices.
As a physician educator he has
delivered on-site training in documentation, coding, audit process
improvement and forms design. He has extensive experience on compliance
issues and has assisted clients in audits by CMS, fiscal intermediaries
and local payers. He utilizes a variety of process improvement techniques
principally following the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve,
and Control), Six Sigma process.
In the hospital setting he has
worked with Health Information Management and Case Management Departments
on the issues of DRG and Case Mix Index (CMI). In these engagements
he has implemented Inpatient Documentation tools and CMS rules for
Physicians at Teaching Hospitals (PATH). Improvement has been targeted
at the linkage between provider documentation, ICD-9, DRG assignment
and CMI. Direct financial results on the high end have exceeded
800%. In addition indirect financial improvement is tied to improved
patient care, decreased rework, successful audits, improved provider
comfort and increased work enjoyment.
He served as staff at Henry Ford
Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. Subsequently he was Medical Director
of PPOM Southfield, Michigan. Following PPOM he did private practice,
then consulting for EndueNet Inc, Northville MI. where he was Vice
President of Product Development. Most recently he has been consulting
since 2004.
Dr. McGoey was educated at McMaster
University Ontario, Canada in Internal Medicine. He did a Dermatology
residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan.
